Nearly every state specifies that you must have brakes on any trailer that exceeds a certain weight. This varies by state but is usually between 1,000 and 3,000 lbs.
Towing a few extra tons is a burden your motor home brakes are not designed to handle. That's why almost all motor home chassis manufacturers state that you will void their warranty if you tow more than 1,500 lbs.
